Designed to help improve the pathway between education and employment, Accelerator is all about giving young people a chance to experience what the world of work is really like.
It's not so much about hands-on work experience, it is a unique opportunity to hear from leaders across Taranaki about their industry and their places of work.
Accelerator offers students a unique opportunity to spend time within an industry that interests them. Participants hear from leaders in the field they are interested in and will have the chance to ask questions and gain real-world insight into what it is really like to work in the industry that they are exploring.
The 2022 version of Accelerator has been revamped and will run during Term 3 starting Tuesday 26 July and finishing Tuesday 6 September. The programme will have a combination of business visits where you will be mentored by various industry experts and virtual wellbeing coaching with Paul Rangiwahia.
This year's programme will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school. The timing of the business visits might vary depending on the industry, but participants can expect to spend at least one hour at the various businesses during each of the Wednesday visits.
There will also be three Accelerator visits to the Novotel New Plymouth to attend. One for opening night, one in the middle of the programme for an in-person catch-up and one for the final graduation night.
Several local businesses have joined forces with Accelerator to offer mentoring in their chosen fields. Accounting, technology, law, electrical, manufacturing, creative arts, hospitality and healthcare are just a few of the career opportunities that are open to explore.
Employers, if you'd like to connect with tomorrow's employees and host young people in your workplace or find out more about the Accelerator Progamme, please get in touch.
